Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

Old English Translator is designed to be anonymous by default. We do not require account registration, email addresses, or any personal information to use the translation service.

We automatically collect the following minimal data:

  • A device identifier (a random UUID stored in a cookie) used solely for rate limiting and referral tracking.
  • Translation text you submit — processed by our AI and cached temporarily to improve performance. We do not mine or sell this data.
  • Aggregate usage metrics (page views, translation counts) via Cloudflare Analytics.

2. Cookies

We use the following cookies:

  • device_id: A random UUID set on first visit. Used for rate limiting and referral attribution. Optional — clearing it will generate a new ID.
  • ref: A referral tracking cookie (30-day lifespan) set when you arrive via a shared translation link.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: Cloudflare's bot detection service may set its own cookies. These are governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics cookies.

4. Data Retention

Translation cache data in KV storage expires automatically (7 days for translations, 1 day for word lookups). User feedback (ratings) is stored in D1 and retained for service improvement. You may request deletion by contacting us.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Since we collect no personal information in Phase 1, there is typically nothing to access or delete beyond the device_id cookie, which you can clear in your browser settings.
